The brain is divided into two seperate hemispheres like the east and the west. One side dominates major personality traits. Right handed people use the left hemisphere and most left handed people use the right hemisphere. Four of the six astronauts that landed on the moon were left handed. Generally people use both the right and left modes of thinking. One appears stronger and more often than the other. School psychologists use personality tests for job placement and predicting future work environments for kids. The IBMers of the 60's were generally left brained. In the 90's, people who work with computers tend to be right brained. Brain harmony is the balance of the left and right sides of the mind: Yen and Yang. In this battle of hippie vs. nerd world, like minds associate and split the world into basically two halves.
Artistic, creative, emotional, characteristics are the results of people "suffering" from right brain dominance. Creative arguments always originate in the right brain. Another trait of right hemispheric thought is non-sequential order. A right brainer may compose the world's most endearing love letter, address it, seal it, put the letter in the mail box forgetting to add the stamp. Right-brainers often do not finish a project but start many, keeping them all in an orbit. Right brained dominance is sometimes confused with psychosis, eccentricity, or learning disorders. Artistic people are lone eagles and don't work well in teams.
Attention to detail, order, discipline, and respect for authority are aspects of left brain dominated people. They are often perceived as "book worms" or "nerds" because they like words and numbers. Disciplined analysis of details originates in he left brain. Public school teaches 1+1=2, c-a-t spells cat; the left brain understands this precise order. Bookkeepers, accountants, and computer programmers are occupations that require lots of "left brain," repetitive, discipline.
A teacher in front of classroom attempts to explain the evils of alcohol. She holds a squirmy worm above a glass of water and another worm above a glass tequila. She drops the worm in water and the worm is fine. She drops the other worm into the tequila and the worm soon stops moving and dies. Then the teacher asks, "What can we learn from this experiment?" One student raises his hand and says, "Water is good, tequila is bad." Another student raises his hand and says, "If you drink tequila, you'll never have worms." The child that said that drinking tequila reduces your chance of getting worms would be a right brain child.
**Disclaimer: RIGHT BRAINED PEOPLE ALWAYS FIND THE EXCEPTION TO THE RULE. If we make general statements and you think "but......," you may be more right brained than you think.
